Homeopathy
Please note, this page will be replaced with a Naturopathic section in the near future.
Homeopathy is natural practice that combines the use of remedies from plant, mineral, and animal sources. It has been built up by centuries of scientific observation using basic principles. It is a different view of "disease and "health", which can also complement most other types of therapies.
When used properly, homeopathic remedies are effective, non toxic, inexpensive, and non invasive. They've been used for a wide range of conditions, both acute and long term, on adults, children, and even animals. Their usefulness is not linked to physical complaints. Homeopathic remedies are reported to effectively improve behavioral, emotional, physical states and increase energy levels.
Homeopathy is popular in Europe, Asia, South America, and Australia. It was also popular in North America in the 1800's, and was used in cholera and yellow fever epidemics. Its devotees have included Queen Elizabeth II (and the Royal Family), Rockefeller, Ghandhi~ Mark Twain, Tina Turner, Yehudi Menuhin, Sting, and Paul McCartney.
Classical homeopathy is a holistic practice. It treats the whole person, not just the isolated symptom(s).
Homeopathy works the body. The body is considered to have an inherent biological intelligence, curative powers, and knowledge of how to heal itself. A correctly chosen homeopathic remedy assists and stimulates these powers, it supports the body's efforts to normalize and achieve "wellness"
Classical homeopathy is individualized. It treats the person, not a "disease". We are all unique. From the same stimulus, we may develop different symptoms, (or non at all). In homeopathy this means different remedies for different people.
A simplified example: headaches are not experienced the same way (duration, location, frequency, intensity, sensation, worst time of day, etc.). Moreover the headache needs to be assessed in relation to other physical symptoms, emotional triggers, stresses, lifestyles, traumas, family history, diet,..., i.e., the total person.
Each homeopathic remedy is unique, for a different symptom picture. Your practitioner will assess the overall situation and recommend the appropriate remedies. This will be a small dose of a substance that elicits similar symptoms when given in larger doses to a healthy person This is known as the "law of similars", first stated by Hippocrates in the 4th century B.C. and was practice by Hahnemannion, 300 years before our time.
